Since I've moved from Utah I've had a couple of things come up that have confused me.
1.)Why don't other states grow mountains?
2.)Why do my neighbors look at me weird when I say, "Hi Brother or Sister (So-n-So)?"
3.)Why do people keep asking my husband how many wives he has? (He better only have one dangit!)
and for my latest one:
4.)When do you Trick or Treat when Halloween falls on a Sunday? (Growing up in Utah it has always been celebrated the day before, Saturday October 30th. ALWAYS! The whole State does it.)
So now that I'm living here in North Carolina I wasn't sure what NC does for this type of situation. I asked some friends from church and they said the newspaper said Saturday. But then I heard that each town is making up their own mind about it. So I thought I would google it for my town (my friends live in the town next to us). I found our local newspaper had printed a story on Trick or Treating being on October 30th.

Check out the comments people made about changing the date to Saturday. I was really quite surprised that this hasn't come up before. One of the comments said they switched the Trick or Treating back in 2004 (the last time the 31st fell on a Sunday) to Saturday then too. So why are all these people so upset? When I was a kid I thought that we were tricking someone (or damning the Man however you want to look at it) by having Halloween a day earlier. So again why is it that people are so upset about having it a day earlier?
I must tell you that I am a little bias about having it on Saturday. My birthday happens to be October 30th. So every 7 years I get to be special and have Halloween on my birthday (and I am special because my Mom told me so!).
So tell me what your town is doing for this Halloween's Trick or Treating, Sunday or Saturday? And tell me what your view is about changing it?

well, believe it or not we are having a little halloween celebration here in af-crap-istan too. it's on saturday night and they might even have a few fireworks, but i won't hold my breath for that. maybe i'll get a sparkler or something. actual i won't go. i'll be busy with homework...or as i write it on my to do list "hmwrk". it's a secret code so don't tell anybody. yes tara every 7 years you are special.
Of course Halloween should be on your birthday!
Our ward will be having a trunk or treat on the 30th. Our city will be having the trick of treat on the 30th also so more candy for me!
I grew up in San Diego as a Mormon so I relate to your whole list! Except I didn't think about the mountains! haha
When Halloween landed on Sundays our ward would do a big "trunk or treat" So we could still go and trick or treat!
Dear Sister Priddis,
The South is a little slow. I don't know if you noticed or not. They haven't realized that mountains have to be higher than the freeway to be considered "mountains". They think their hills are mountains.
They also haven't figured out that having two wives is more productive that having only one. Another excuse to buy two Escalades. .... Ok, I am getting a little carried away.
They also need to know that your birthday is a holiday no matter what day it falls on. :) And you are special at least once a year.
